I really appreciate the reference actually Minna, Tolkien’s view of the world as a place of fallen and fading beauty is hugely influential in my life and writing, mostly because I believe it’s true. I don’t see the two feelings (suffering and feelings of loss, as if great beauty is passing away forever, and the impulse to create) as in opposition at all; Tolkien himself saw art as a way of holding back the encroaching twilight, of keeping alive things that otherwise might fade.
Loved this piece. To accept our true selves even if they don't align with our dreamt up selves, or to become that self. This line - so succinct and true: Because not everyone is supposed to be doing everything.
