It is interesting how little people speak of death. Every now and then, someone will make a joke or maybe say a thoughtful word. Overall, though, daily life is just work and pay the bills and watch the news and buy some stuff so you can be glad you have that stuff until you want more stuff and buy more stuff. In between much of this, a loved one passes. We got to the funeral and pay our respects and talk about how they had a good life, if they did. And if not, we say at least their suffering is over. This is all true and I think we really mean it. Still, though, when you bring up death, most people leave the room. They have no time to even consider it. I think no matter what your opinion on an afterlife, why not talk about it at least? How can you fear the inevitable so much? I can fear cancer and I may never get it. I can fear never making a name as a writer but I don't know what will happen either way. Still, death is sitting there just waiting. We can't even mention the guy being in the room with us, as he always is? I think it's a modern phenomenon and while technology has given us some great things, it can't save us from the big sleep. I myself do believe in heaven and am a Christian because I do know death is coming and I'm at peace with it, most times. I don't know for sure what my afterlife will be but I do believe it is there and in some ways, I do look forward to it. This is such a great discussion and one that should take place more often. Excellent post, Zack.

Thanks Parker, I too cannot imagine confronting death apart from Christ’s victory over it.
